Israeli tank shelling kills Palestinian in northern Gaza Strip

One Palestinian was killed as an Israeli tank fired at the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun on Monday, Palestinian medics and security sources said.

The sources said 24-year-old Mazen Ouda from Beit Hanoun was killed after being hit by shrapnel of a tank shell, which landed near his home in northern part of the town.

Ouda's father and brother were killed one month ago, when an Israeli elite force stormed northeastern Beit Hanoun in search of Hamas militants. Ouda's sister was critically wounded in the operation and died three days later.

The shelling came shortly after Islamic Jihad (Holy War) militants launched two homemade rockets from northern Gaza Strip at southern Israel.
