font size

An American soldier was killed Wednesday in a bomb attack in Baghdad, the U.S. military said in a statement on Thursday.

"A Multi-National Division Baghdad Soldier died at approximately noon Wednesday when the vehicle he was riding in was struck by an improvised-explosive device west of Baghdad," said the statement.

The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the statement added.

Since the U.S.-led war in Iraq broke out in March 2003, more than 2,805 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, according to media count.
