Ugandan president arrives in Beijing for China-Africa summit

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni arrived in Beijing Thursday for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China- Africa Cooperation.

Forty eight African countries that have diplomatic relations with China are to participate in the summit scheduled for Nov. 4-5.

China and Uganda forged diplomatic ties on Oct. 18, 1962. Chinese President Hu Jintao (then vice president) and Premier Wen Jiabao visited Uganda in 2001 and 2006 respectively. Museveni visited China in 2004.

Uganda is a destination country for Chinese tourists. Bilateral trade reached 99.37 million U.S. dollars in 2005.
