Condolences, grieves and tribute continued to pour into the funeral committee of Henry Fok, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Consultative Conference (CPPCC), on Thursday, five days after he passed away in Beijing.
Fok died in Beijing Saturday night at the age of 84. His national flag draped coffin was flown back to Hong Kong Tuesday via special plane.
The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council praised in a telegram of condolence that Fok had contributed a lot to the nation's development and Hong Kong's smooth return to the motherland, saying his passing way was "a huge loss to the country and Hong Kong."
The Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council said Fok's contributions were "tremendous" in helping promote the exchange between Hong Kong and overseas Chinese.
"His manner and integrity was widely admired by Chinese at home and abroad," the office said in a telegram of condolence.
Guangdong provincial government also eulogized on Fok's huge investment in the province to help start the country's modernization drive, saying he had "devoted all his vigor to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation."
The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the People's Liberation Army Garrison Troops in Hong Kong, China Disabled Persons' Federation, Soong Ching Ling Foundation and other institutions also paid tribute to Fok's contributions to China's diplomacy and charitable causes.
A memorial service for Fok was scheduled in the Hong Kong Funeral Home on Nov. 7
