Congolese president arrives in Beijing

President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou-Nguesso arrived here Thursday for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

A total of 48 African countries that have diplomatic relations with China are to participate in the two-day summit slated to start on Nov. 4.

The Republic of Congo forged diplomatic relations with China on Feb. 22, 1964. Denis Sassou-Nguesso visited China in 2005, while Chinese Premier Wen Jiaobao visited the Republic of Congo in 2006. Bilateral trade totaled 2.423 billion U.S. dollars in 2005.
