A U.S. Marine died on Thursday due to wounds sustained in combat actions in the volatile province of Anbar in western Iraq, the military said on Friday.

"One Marine assigned to Regimental Combat Team 5 died from injuries sustained due to enemy action Thursday while operating in Al Anbar Province," the military said in a statement.

Earlier, the military said that three U.S. soldiers were killed when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device in eastern Baghdad on Thursday.

Since the U.S.-led war in Iraq broke out in March 2003, more than 2,810 U.S. soldiers have been killed in the country, according to media count.
