Pakistani Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasneem Aslam on Monday said that Islamabad has proposed fencing and "selectively" planting land mines along the rugged frontier between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
"It's selective mining, not the entire border because there are genuine travelers between the two countries and these have been there for centuries," she said.
She said, however, Afghanistan has not yet responded to the Pakistani proposal while Karzai has said he was not in favor of fencing the border between the two countries.
"He was in fact in favor of further liberalizing the border," she added.
She further informed that Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri is to visit Afghanistan next month for talks on holding a joint meeting of tribal leaders on both sides of the border to tackle Taliban insurgency there.
"The two sides are in touch regarding modalities, once that is done the foreign minister will visit Kabul to exchange views with his counterpart, probably in the first half of December," she said.
