The trial of the former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and six of his aides on charges of genocide against Kurdish population resumes Tuesday with Saddam's attendance in a Baghdad court.

Saddam showed up in the courtroom two days after he and two of his senior aides were sentenced to death in separate trial of Dujail, in which 148 people were executed in the aftermath crackdown on the town following a failed assassination attempt against Saddam in 1982.

Saddam's defense team continued boycott the sessions of the Anfal trial after the court rejected a series of defense requests, prompting the judge to appoint another attorney to defend the deposed president.

An Iraqi High Tribunal's nine-judge Appelate Chamber could amend both the verdict and the sentence.
