Four civilians were killed and 15 others wounded in a series of explosions in Baghdad on Wednesday morning, a well-informed Interior Ministry source said.

"A car parked in an area near the Nidaa mosque in Sliekh neighborhood detonated at 9:00 a.m. (0600 GMT), killing at least a civilian and wounding six others," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

In a separate incident, four civilians were wounded when two mortar rounds landed in the Qahira neighborhood in northern Baghdad, the source added.

Meanwhile, several mortar rounds landed near a major medical complex of Madinat al-Tib and on the outer fence of the old site of the Iraqi Defense Ministry in Bab al-Mu'azam in central Baghdad, killing three people and wounding five others, the source said.

Late Tuesday, a ministry source told Xinhua that up to 17 people were killed and 20 others wounded when a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt blew himself up in a coffee shop in Grei 'at district in northern Baghdad.

Violence rages in Iraq as sectarian killings, car bombings, roadside bombs cause dozens of Iraqi casualties daily.
