Six people killed in car bomb in south of Baghdad

Six people were killed and 23 others wounded when a car bomb went off in Mahmoudiyah town, 40 km south of Baghdad, on Wednesday, a police source told Xinhua.

"A car bomb detonated before midday in Mahmoudiyah town, killing six people and wounding 23 others," the source said on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, several mortar rounds landed near the Muhammad al- Jawad Square in Baghdad's northern district of Kadhimiyah, wounding eight people, the source added.

Earlier in the day, four civilians were killed and 23 others wounded in a series of car bombs and mortar barrages in Baghdad.
