French footall super star Zinedine Zidane inaugurated Grameen-Danone Food Ltd. in Dhaka Wednesday.
Grameen Bank founder, also 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammede Yunus disclosed at the function that the idea of forming the joint venture came from a breakfast discussion between he and French Danone Company Chairman and CEO Franck Riboud in November last year.
Yunus said the purpose of the joint venture is to produce nutritious yoghourt for Bangladeshi poor children.
He said the profit-making joint venture is different from other ventures, the profit is not going to personal pocket, it will input to the venture's account for further expansion.
At the invitation of Yunus who won the Nobel Peace Prize because of his micro-credit model which has helped a lot of people coming out of poverty, Zidane arrived at Dhaka Monday night, and visited some micro-credit projects by Grameen Bank in northern Gazipur district Tuesday morning.
Zidane visited Bangladesh Football Federation Tuesday afternoon, played a football exhibition match between two junior football teams.
Zidane will leave here Wednesday evening by Emirates airways.
