Algerian president continues state visit in Shanghai

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika toured East China's economic hub Shanghai on Tuesday to continue his state visit in China.

His three-day state visit came after he attended the Sunday-closed Beijing Summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

During his meeting with Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng, Bouteflika hailed China's economic and social achievements.

Bouteflika said Algeria would like to learn from China.

Chinese companies are welcomed to invest in Algeria, the president said.

Bouteflika said the Beijing Summit has charted a right path for future Sino-African cooperation.

Algeria established diplomatic ties with China on Dec. 20, 1958. During Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to Algeria in February 2004, the two countries announced the establishment of a strategic cooperative relationship. Bilateral trade topped 1.77 billion U.S. dollars in 2005.
