Ecuador President Alfredo Palacio has named soccer player Agustin Delgado, the highest scoring player in the national team, as presidential delegate to the Afro-Ecuadorian Development Council, Palacio said in a Wednesday statement.
Tin, as he is known in Ecuador, will lead the corporation and have the casting vote, as well the power to represent the body legally and in civil life. With this appointment, Palacio is seeking to develop the holistic development of Ecaudorians of African decent, Delgado said.
The Council's programs aim to improve the quality of life, access to public services and constitutional rights of Afro-Ecuadorians.
Delgado leads a foundation named after him, as well as being one of the nation's best ever soccer players.
This foundation aims to develop the athletic abilities of youths in the Afro-Ecuadorian communities in the Riva Chota and River Mira watersheds.
