The number of web log users or bloggers in China reached 17.485 million at the end of August, almost 30 times the figure in 2002 when blogs were first introduced.
There are 33.747 million registered blogs in China according to figures from China Internet Network Information Center (CINIC).
The 2006 Chinese Bloggers Investigation Report from CINIC shows that over 80 percent of Chinese bloggers have set up their sites to express their mood and more than 60 percent say that blogging is a way to express thoughts and viewpoints. Only 17 percent of those surveyed said they didn't want their blogs read by more than a small number of people, while more than 30 percent care a great deal about how many people have visited their sites.
The report indicates that most Chinese bloggers want to share their thoughts or opinions through web logs, which means that the role of the blog is becoming more distinct.
The report also shows that 70 percent of bloggers have junior college degrees and 40 percent have a bachelor's degree or higher. The rate is much higher than that of ordinary Internet users.
