Iraqi soldier killed in bomb attack in Baghdad

An Iraqi army soldier was killed and four others wounded when a roadside bomb went off near their patrol in eastern Baghdad on Thursday, an Interior Ministry source said.

"A roadside bomb detonated near a passing Iraqi army patrol near the Sakhrah Restaurant in the Palestine Street," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The blast damaged a military vehicle, killing a soldier and wounding four others aboard, the source said.

Meanwhile, mortar rounds landed on the residential district of Baladiyat in eastern Baghdad on Thursday morning, wounding three people, the source added.

On Wednesday a series of car bombs and mortar barrages hit several neighborhoods of the capital, killing a total of 45 people and wounding 77 others, according to the Iraqi police count.
