The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) -led government said late Thursday that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas left Gaza City following two days of deep talks with Prime Minister Ismail Haneya on unity government.
The government spokesman Ghazi Hamad told media that the ruling Hamas movement presented several nominees to lead the upcoming government of national unity.
He added that his movement will agree with Abbas on selecting one of those nominees but didn't reveal their names.
Meanwhile, President Abbas phoned Hamas' Damascus-based politburo Chief Khaled Mashaal while holding a meeting with Haneya in Gaza, said a spokesman for Abbas.
The phone conversation was good and came as parts of the diplomatic moves in the Gaza Strip to form a national unity government, Abu Rudaina told a news conference.
Mustafa al-Barghouti, the independent lawmaker who mediates between Hamas and Abbas' Fatah movement, said he pushed both sides for holding such rare phone conversation and it also came after Abbas and Haneya ended weeks of cold relations.
Al-Barghouti added the talks between Abbas and Haneya have exceeded the issue of the new government and that the Palestinian factions are now seeking comprehensive national agreement, including reforming the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).
