PLO official slams U.S., Israel for irresponsibility for Palestine issue
font size

Taysseer Khaled, a senior member of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), on Monday slammed the United States and Israel for showing their irresponsibility for the Palestine issue.

The United States and Israel is not interested in finding a just solution to the Palestinian cause, Khaled told the Voice of Palestine radio.

He made the remarks to the radio, while Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is paying a visit to the United States.

"In the American agenda, the priorities are now for the Iranian file and the situation in Lebanon," Khaled said.

"This shows irresponsibility in dealing with the situation in the region, whether by the U.S. administration or the Israeli government," he added.

Olmert's visit to the U.S. came amid mounting outrage against Washington in the Palestinian territories and the Arab world following deadly Israeli operations in the Gaza Strip that killed 19 civilians on Wednesday and a U.S. veto that blocked an Arab bid at the UN Security Council to condemn the Israeli offensive.

Khaled called for the Arabs to break the U.S. veto and demand for imposing sanctions on Israel.

Arab foreign ministers met in Egypt on Sunday and came up with a decision to break western embargo and sanctions that were imposed on the Palestinians by the international community when the Hamas-led government took office last March.
