Eight U.S. soldier killed in Iraq in two days

Another U.S. soldier was killed in a province northeast of Baghdad, bringing the number of U.S. soldiers killed to eight in two days, the U.S. military said on Thursday.

A Task Force Lightning soldier assigned to 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, was killed due to combat action on Wednesday in Diyala province, the military said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, the military said that a U.S. soldier was killed in small arms fire in Baghdad on Tuesday, and two more U.S. soldiers were also killed Tuesday when their vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb northwest of Baghdad.

Before that, four more soldiers, including three marines, were killed in Iraq's western Anbar province, said the military.

Since the U.S.-led war in Iraq broke out in March 2003, more than 2,850 U.S. soldiers have been killed in the war-torn country, according to media count.
