China's top advisor Jia Qinglin has called for more political consultations among local people to help reach the national goal of building a harmonious socialist society.
Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said that local people's political consultative conferences should better promote harmony between the government and the party, different ethnic groups, religions, classes and overseas Chinese.
Jia made the remarks during his tour to east China's Jiangsu province, where he visited villages, factories and schools from Nov. 16 to 19.
"More attention should be given to resource conservation and environment protection and to social development and matters concerning the people's livelihood," he said.
During a visit to a community in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu, Jia stressed that communities were the basic units of a harmonious society.
He called for the creation of modern communities with good amenities that could link the party and government with the masses and promote social stability.
