People line up outside Caishikou Department Store in Beijing to buy gold bars for the lunar "Year of the Pig". On November 17 gold bars celebrating the "Year of the Pig" went on sale, marking the start of the consumption growth period that occurs annually at the year's end. Although the price is 40 yuan more per gram than it was last year, gold buyer's enthusiasm was not dampened. As early as 5am, there were two long lines at the gate of Caishikou Department Store. By 5pm, over 50 million yuan worth of commemorative bars had been sold.
