8 people killed in gas pipeline blast in Indonesia

At least Eight people were killed and 12 others injured until Thursday morning following a gas pipeline explosion which caused massive fire at the mudflow site of Lapindo Brantas Inc. on the Gempol-Porong road, Sidoarjo, in Indonesia's East Java province, on Wednesday night, a local television reported.

The people who were killed on the spot including two policemen, Metro TV reported on Thursday morning.

The explosion caused blazing fire some 50 meters high and mud spilling into the Gempol-Porong toll road at the Km-38.

The blast took place at about 8:15 p.m. (local time), probably caused by a gas pipe or canister.
