The Russian government is keen to assist Indonesia in building its first nuclear reactor as a new energy source, an envoy said in Jakarta Thursday.
"In the energy sector, Russia is keen to participate in the construction of Indonesia's first nuclear reactor," Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Mikhail Bely was quoted by leading news website Detikcom as saying.
He said cooperation in nuclear power plant will become one of the main agendas during the meeting between President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow scheduled for Dec. 1.
"We will conduct a survey and then inform (Indonesia) how to construct a reactor."
Susilo and Putin also will discuss military cooperation, in which Russia offers 1 billion U.S. dollars credit for arms procurement for Indonesia, he added.
"We are very near to reach a deal on the planned credit disbursement," he said.
Local media reports said earlier Indonesia had ordered five new cargo helicopters, four combat helicopters, two submarines and six fighter jets from Russia using the 1 billion dollars export credit.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is set to visit Russia after a trip to Japan.
