Gunmen kill Iraqi politician in western Baghdad

Unknown gunmen shot dead an Iraqi politician near a restaurant in a Baghdad western neighborhood on Thursday, a well-informed police source told Xinhua.

"Najim Abdul-Radha al-Kanani, Secretary General of the Constitutional Monarchy Movement for Iraq, and Brigade Staff Pilot in the former Iraqi army, was found killed behind the Zarzor Restaurant in Baghdad Mansur district," the source said on condition of anonymity.

The Iraqi Constitutional Monarchy (ICM) is a monarchist political party in Iraq led by Sharif Ali Bin al-Hussein, who is related to the Hashemite royal family, which ruled Iraq until 1958.

The movement has enrolled in the U.S.-back political process in Iraq.
