Vietnam's stock market index reaches record high

Vietnam's stock market index, VN- Index, on Friday surged 28.58 points, or 4.49 percent, to 665.53, the highest level since the establishment of the local bourse in July 2000, with 467.101 billion Vietnamese dong (VND) (nearly 29. 38 million U.S. dollars) worth of shares and investment certificates being traded.

A total of 5,752,000 shares worth 441.158 billion VND (nearly 27.75 million dollars), and 838,690 investment fund certificates totaling 25.943 billion VND (1.63 million dollars) changed hands at the Ho Chi Minh City Securities Trading Center on Friday. Meanwhile, no bonds were traded.

Vietnam currently has 56 kinds of listed shares, 372 kinds of listed bonds, mostly government bonds, and 1 listed investment fund totaling nearly 67,322 billion VND (over 4.23 billion dollars) .
