All incumbent and ex-Gurkha army men recruited by Britain would get British citizenship after the issuance of the new British immigration law on Nov. 23, as local newspaper The Rising Nepal reported on Saturday.
Under the new provision, all British-recruited former Gurkha soldiers living in Nepal and other countries irrespective of their date of retirement will get British citizenship and those already in Britain will be allowed to stay in Britain permanently, the Gurkha Ex-Servicemen's organization said in a press statement on Friday.
Previously, the British government announced that only those ex- Gurkha soldiers retiring after July 1,1997 would get residential visa and would get British citizenship on demand.
