Several Palestinian militant groups said Saturday night that they agreed with Prime Minister Ismail Haneya that they accept a conditional ceasefire with Israel.
Abu Abeer, spokesman of the Popular Resistance Committees, told Xinhua over phone that an agreement was reached in a meeting between Haneya and leaders of four militant groups active in the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, sources close to militants said that all militant groups decided to stop launching homemade rockets at Israel as of 6:00 a.m. (0400 GMT) on Sunday.
"We agreed with Prime Minister Ismail Haneya that we stop launching rockets at Israel on condition that Israel at the same time stops its military aggression on the Palestinian people," said Abu Abeer.
He said that Israel should stop targeted killings, ground operations in the Palestinian territories, demolition of homes and arrest of Palestinians.
"The ball is now at the Israeli side. If they stop airstrikes, ground operations, killings, demolition and arrests, we would stop firing rockets at Israel immediately," he said.
