Palestinian PM celebrates Palestinian solidarity day in Egypt

Visiting Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haneya on Wednesday attended celebrations marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Egypt's official MENA news agency reported.

Haneya told the ceremony that all Israeli attempts to press the Palestinians to give up their rights had failed, the report said.

He said that Israel launched a three-level campaign against the Palestinians after the Hamas-led government took office in March -- imposing financial and economic blockade, imposing political isolation in regional and international arenas and launching incessant offensives.

The Hamas-led government has faced political and economic sanctions since it took office in March, as Hamas rejects three conditions of recognizing Israel, renouncing violence and honoring previous agreements signed with Israel.

The United Nations sets Nov. 29 as the Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

Haneya arrived here late Tuesday via the Rafah terminal crossing on Gaza-Egypt borders to kick off his seven-nation tour, which will also take him to Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
