The King inspected the thousands of troops dressed in colorful ceremonial uniforms in the one-hour-long parade, and gave a speech in which he called on the military men to devotedly carry out their born duties to safeguard national unity and stability.
The monarch would have his 79th birthday on Dec. 5, 2006, the year that also marks the 60th anniversary of the King's accession to the throne. A series of grand celebrations have been held around the country.
The King enjoyed high respect among Thai people. The news of his suffering some bruises and injuries from a slip earlier this year have attracted public concern for his health.
