Cypriot president reiterates one-China policyCypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos, who begins a state visit to China next Monday, has reiterated his country's adherence to the one-China policy. "Cyprus unreservedly supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the People's Republic of China, that is the policy of one China," Papadopoulos, who is scheduled to visit China from Dec. 4 to Dec. 8, told Xinhua in an exclusive written interview. "I am ready, of course, to reiterate this position during my talks in Beijing," he emphasized. The president said Cyprus shares the view that the existing problem in cross-Straits relations between China's mainland and Taiwan can be solved on the basis of "one country, two systems." Therefore, he said, Cyprus fully adheres to the one-China policy and also supports Chinese measures for the improvement and strengthening of the cross-Straits relations. The Government of the Republic of Cyprus has stood firmly and consistently by this position whenever new developments unfolded on the international scene which required its reaffirmation, he added.
