U.S. forces killed six suspected insurgents, as well as two women and a child when they called in an airstrike to clear two foreign fighters' safe houses in west of Baghdad late on Saturday, the U.S. military said.
The U.S. raid on Garmah town, some 20 km east of Fallujah, was based on intelligence reports "indicating the targeted building was being used to harbor foreign fighters. The reports also verified that several men were present at the targeted building during the time of the raid," the military said in a statement.
After the airstrike destroyed the buildings, ground forces searched one building and found weapon cache and bodies of five suspected insurgents, two women and a child, the statement said.
Before the airstrike, U.S. ground forces attacked a nearby building, killing another "terrorist and detaining three suspected terrorists," the statement added.
