Israeli DM says ceasefire not to extend to W. Bank
font size

The ceasefire currently in place in the Gaza Strip would not be extended to the West Bank, Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz said on Sunday at a cabinet meeting.

Moreover, the defense minister said that Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would continue its operations in the West Bank.

Peretz' remarks came hours after another Qassam rocket fired from the Gaza Strip landed in southern Israel, causing no injury or damage.

According to Peretz, 15 Qassams have been fired at Israel since the truce came into effect a week ago.

Meanwhile, Israel's security cabinet meeting began Sunday afternoon, during which the ministers were slated to decide how to respond to Qassam attacks, whether Israel would respond to individual attacks, or whether it would hold to a policy of restraint.

On last Sunday, following months of Israeli military operations, Israel and the Palestinians agreed on a ceasefire under it Israel withdrew forces from Gaza in exchange for stopping home-made rocket attacks against Israel.

Though the truce has gone into effect, more than one Palestinian faction has threatened to break down the ceasefire if it was not extended to the West Bank.
