Moussa calls for Lebanese unity to tackle parties' standoff
font size

Visiting Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa Sunday called for Lebanese national unity to solve problems facing the country.

"National unity among all the Lebanese people was the key to solving any problems facing the country," Moussa told reporters after a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora.

The situation in Lebanon was "dangerous" and all Arab leaders were dealing with Lebanon in line with the current status, urged Moussa, who arrived here earlier in the day.

The Cairo-based AL chief's visit to Lebanon came amid a deep political crisis which prompted the Lebanese opposition led by Hezbollah party to hold an open-ended protest calling on the Seniora government to resign to be replaced by a new national unity one.

Asked whether he carries an initiative to tackle the standoff in Lebanon, Moussa replied that "we listen and consult, and there might be some ideas that are formulated during discussions. We might have something at the end of the meetings."

He said that he would meet with all Lebanese parties to strengthen the national unity, hoping the developments in Lebanon would not fueled further.
