Suicide car bomb hits U.S. patrol in northern Iraq
font size

A suicide car bomb struck a U.S. patrol in Iraq's northern city of Mosul on Monday, a local police source said.

"A suicide car bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into a U.S. patrol at about 10:00 a.m. (0700 GMT) in the al-Mithaq neighborhood in Mosul City," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

It was not clear whether the U.S. forces sustained casualties as they immediately cordoned off the scene preventing the Iraqi police from approaching the area, the source added.

Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad, has long been a bastion of insurgency against U.S. and Iraqi security forces.
