Inter-Palestinian disagreement weakens peace process: lawmakerA Palestinian lawmaker said on Sunday that the International efforts to revive the stalled Middle East peace process have been weakened by the inter-Palestinian political infighting. Referring to a new European initiative that calls for an international conference to push stalled peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, independent lawmaker Mustafa al- Barghouti told Voice of Palestine radio: the more we are united, the more we can take advantage of these chances. Months of talks and power struggle, sometimes with arms, between the Hamas-led government and President Mahmoud Abbas on forming a unity government have reach a dead end. Abbas' Fatah accuses the ruling Hamas of not making concessions for the favor of a unity government that is meant to overcome international siege on the Hamas administration. On Saturday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received European diplomats at his office in Gaza. European Union's foreign policy chief Javier Solana blamed Hamas for keeping embargo on and not forming a unity government. Source: Xinhua |
