New Zealand issued Tuesday warnings on the consequences of any coup in Fiji for the county's military commander and anyone else involved.
Prime Minister Helen Clark told Radio New Zealand that New Zealand's military assistance program and aid programs to Fiji would be frozen.
Clark said unless the army chief Commodore Vorege Bainimarama wants to enter the country for the purpose of talks and dialogue, it would be extremely unlikely he would be able to enter.
Bainimarama was in New Zealand just last week for christening of a granddaughter and a crisis talks with Fiji's Prime Minister.
The South Pacific country of a population of 900,000 is on the verge of the fourth coup in nearly 20 years.
Fiji's Military has increased checkpoints around the Government Buildings. Checkpoints were also set up Monday night in Nadi and Lautoka, other two big cities.
A large number of troops are patrolling Suva's courts complex, a witness told Xinhua.
