Hungary, Romania to introduce integrated border control
font size

Hungary and Romania are soon to introduce an integrated, "one stop" control system for people crossing the common border, the Hungarian border control authorities announced on Tuesday.

Beginning on Jan. 1, the authorities "will ensure fast and civilized entry in line with European Union standards and with maximum regard to Schengen norms," Ivan Kovacs, spokesman for the Hungarian border guards, said in a statement.

The announcement followed talks between border control officials of the two countries on Monday, when they discussed technical details and authenticated the two governments' agreement on joint border control.

The Hungarian-Romanian border is crossed by millions of people every year, with the first 10 months in 2006 witnessing the movements of 13 million people.
