One phase of Fusionopolis, Singapore's physical sciences and engineering development, was broken ground here Wednesday.
The 250 million Singapore dollars (about 160 million U.S. dollars) Phase 2A development will house state-of-the-art interdisciplinary labs and facilities for science and engineering research institutes of Singapore's Agency of Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).
The 30-hectare Fusionopolis is master planned and developed by Jurong Town Corporation (JTC), Singapore's lead agency to plan, promote and develop industrial facilities.
When completed, Fusionopolis will be a science and technology city with integrated capabilities from the six research institutes of A*STAR's science and engineering research council.
A key feature of Fusionopolis is the co-location of private and public sector research labs, allowing private industries and public research institutes to work together to foster innovation, experimentation and collaboration in a vibrant research and development environment, Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade and Industry said at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Phase 2A development.
