The Council of Arab Economic Unity Wednesday called on the international community and the quartet committee to press Israel to release a frozen Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) fund of 550 million U.S. dollars.
At an ordinary session, the council urged the quartet committee and neighboring states to end an international siege imposed on the Palestinians since the ruling Islamic Resistance Movement ( Hamas) took office in March and to resume aid to the PLO so that it can pay employees salaries, Egypt's official MENA news agency reported.
The council said that it was necessary for Israeli troops to
fully withdrawal from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
Arab countries were also urged to offer financial support to Palestinians.
On Wednesday, Israel agreed to allow an Egyptian aid convoy to pass the Rafah border crossing into the Palestinian territories, MENA reported.
The quartet committee, grouping the United Nations, the European Union, Russia and the United States, is working on ways to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
