Portuguese FM meets EU legislative panel members on CIA flights
font size

Portuguese Foreign Minister Luis Amado on Wednesday met with members of a European Parliament commission on investigating the illegal U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) flights over Europe, a Portuguese deputy at the European Parliament said.

The flights were alleged to have touched down in Portugal, added Carlos Coelho, who is also a member of the European Parliament commission.

All the evidence showed that the Portuguese authorities had not even known about the flights, which were transporting terrorist suspects illegally kidnapped by CIA agents, Coelho quoted the foreign minister as saying.

Coelho said that the commission had been informed about the flights, which had passed the Portuguese airspace, and was seeking to identify the terrorist suspects.

So far there has been no further information on the incident, he said.
