font size

Airlines flying light aircraft to and from Zanzibar have suspended their services due to lack of special jet fuels in the Indian Ocean archipelago, according to local press reports on Thursday.

English newspaper The Guardian quoted Zan Air official Ashish Nagewadia as saying that the airline company had suspended services due to lack of fuels in the isles.

The airline official also confirmed that the company had been facing the fuel shortage for almost two weeks by now.

The Zanzibar International Airport was reportedly facing a shortage of the Avigas jet fuel.

Another airline, Tropical Air, has also suspended services of four light planes between the isles and mainland Tanzania due to the lack of fuels.

The permanent secretary of the Tanzanian communication and transport ministry has promised to investigate into the fuel shortage, according to the same press report.
