Haneya's regional tour aims at drawing support for Palestinians: spokesman

The Palestinian governing Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) hailed here Thursday that Prime Minister Ismail Haneya's regional tour aims at drawing support for the Palestinian cause and breaking up political and financial embargoes.

"This tour has achieved tangible results on the political level and the level of supporting the Palestinian people physically and morally," Hamas spokesman Ismail Radwan told reporters in Gaza.

Haneya has embarked on his first regional tour since he became the prime minister, which took him to Egypt, Qatar, Syria, Lebanon, Kuwait, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Radwan saw a Qatari offer to pay the salaries of Palestinian health workers and teachers during Haneya's visit last week as one of the key achievements after the Arab foreign ministers decided to defy western siege on the Hamas-led government.

Ministers of the Hamas-led government have made similar tours but mostly included visits to Syria and Iran from where they brought millions of dollars into the Gaza Strip.

Concerning earlier reports that the Hamas-led government has opened dialogue with European nations, Radwan said, "There were no serious talks between us and Europe so far."

But the Hamas-led government "has no objection to open dialogue in order to bridge the gap between the legally-elected government and the European countries", he added.
