Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo on Friday vowed to further promote parliamentary exchanges between China and Cyprus to facilitate nation-to-nation relations.
"In recent years, the two legislatures have maintained sound cooperative relations, which has played an irreplaceable role in enhancing cooperation in various fields," said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC).
Wu made the remarks while meeting with President of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos, who is paying a five-day state visit to China.
Wu hoped the two countries would increase high-level visits and exchanges in legislation and supervision over law-enforcement.
China is ready to further political exchanges and deepen pragmatic cooperation with Cyprus, said Wu, adding China appreciated Cyprus' adherence to the one-China policy.
The Cypriot government supports closer parliamentary exchanges between the two countries, said Papadopoulos.
