U.S. President George W. Bush will hold a wide range of consultations on Iraq next week and could announce changes to the Iraq strategy as early as before Christmas, the White House said on Friday.
Bush will meet with top-ranking State Department, Defense Department and military officials, as well as U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad and outside experts, said White House spokeswoman Dana Perino.
Bush has said he would consider the recommendations put forward by the Iraq Study Group report, although he said he would not accept every recommendation.
U.S. media reported Friday that Bush distanced himself from key recommendations of the bipartisan Iraq Study Group -- withdrawing combat troops and engaging Iran and Syria diplomatically.
Bush has said that the changes to the Iraq strategy will be based on the recommendations of separate studies from the Pentagon, the State Department and the National Security Council as well as the Iraq Study Group.
