Japan's Kayoko Fukushi lived up to her expectations when she won the women's 10,000m final at the Asian Games here on Friday.
Fukushi, the world leader over the 10,000m this year, led from the start to the finish, clocking the fastest time of 31 minutes 29.38 seconds.
"I am very happy to win the gold medal. It was very good, a good race," said the 24-year-old Fukushi.
Kareema Saleh Jasim of Bahrain staged a powerful sprint to edge Japanese veteran Hiromi Ominami for the runner-up place at 32:17. 14. The 31-year-old Ominami had to settle for the bronze medal at 32:18.02.
"It was a tough race but I was determined to win the silver, and I did," said Jasim.
