Mine kills 2 Afghan interpreters working for NATO troops
font size

Two Afghans working as interpreters for NATO forces have been killed as their vehicle struck a mine in the southern Uruzgan province, a spokesman of NATO troops said Saturday.

A NATO vehicle was hit by the mine in Darwishan area of Tirin Kot, the provincial capital of Uruzgan, on Friday, damaging the vehicle and killing two Afghan interpreters inside, Major Jason Chalk told reporters in Kandahar.

Meanwhile, a purported Taliban spokesman Qari Yusuf Ahmadi said the Taliban claimed responsibility for the incident.

Acting as an interpreter for foreign troops in Afghanistan can be quite risky as quite a few Afghan interpreters have been injured or even killed by Taliban-linked violence this year.

More than 3,900 people, mostly Taliban militants, have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
