font size

One of the Palestinian security members who staged a demonstration to demand full salary from the Hamas-led government was wounded Saturday afternoon during clashes between the security workers and forces guarding the parliament in Gaza city.

The man was moderately wounded as hundreds of security members demonstrated in Gaza Strip against the Hamas-led government to demand their overdue salaries, closing major crossroads in Gaza Strip.

There were no armed confrontations except in Gaza city when the armed security members tried to break into the building of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) which is controlled by Hamas movement, according to witnesses.

A group of demonstrators jangled with bodyguards of Ahmad Bahar, the deputy speaker of the parliament who refused to listen to the demonstrators, the witnesses said.

The witnesses also denied reports that the security members stormed the meeting hall at the parliament.

Blaming economic and political boycott imposed on the Hamas administration as the reason behind their plight, the armed demonstrators have also urged the government to act and move on the way to resolve the financial crisis.

Since it taking office in March, the Hamas government has not paid full salaries to 165,000 public employees.

In September, similar demonstration happened around the parliament has turned into bloodshed with nine people killed in the fire exchange between Hamas forces and the Fatah demonstrators.
