font size

The 2nd session of Laos' 6th National Assembly, the country's top legislative body, opened on Monday to discuss some key socioeconomic issues, including poverty reduction and law construction, Laos' news agency KPL reported.

The session chaired by President of National Assembly Thongsing Thammavong is to review reports of the Lao government, the People's Supreme Court and the People's Supreme Procuracy on the implementation of plans on rural development and poverty reduction, trial work, and law enforcement.

During the session, legislators are also expected to discuss and approve bills on banking, children's rights and value-added tax, and amended laws on state budget, labor and forestry.

Laos has targeted gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 7.5 percent in the 2006-2007 fiscal year starting in October.
