font size

The foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) member states, who gathered here on Monday, condemned the military takeover in Fiji.

"The (EU) Council condemns the military takeover in Fiji and the removal of its democratically elected government," said a conclusion document issued by the meeting.

The ministers deplored "the actions by Commodore Bainimarama and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) in deposing the Prime Minister and assuming executive control of the country."

"The council calls for the urgent and full restoration of democracy as well as the return of civilian rule as soon as possible," said the document.
