Indonesia's Pertamina launches high octane biofuel
font size

Indonesia's state-run oil firm Pertamina has recently launched high-octane biofuel after the successful introduction of biodiesel and bio-gasoline earlier this year, a report said Tuesday.

Called Biopertamax E-5, a mixture of 95 percent high-octane gasoline Pertamax and 5 percent pure ethanol, the environmentally friendly product can be used in all types of vehicle engines without the need for modification, reported major national newspaper The Jakarta Post.

To promote use of the new fuel, which hit fuel outlets Monday, Pertamina was selling it at 4,750 rupiah (50 US cents) per liter, or 50 rupiah cheaper than Pertamax.

Pertamina currently sells biodiesel and bio-gasoline in 189 gas stations in Jakarta, with a total volume of 1,310 kiloliters per day.
