Ancient public bath discovered in southeastern Turkey
font size

Turkish archeologists said Wednesday that they had discovered a 1500 year-old public bath while digging into a former cornfield in southeastern Turkey, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.

"We have found a public bathing complex and five ancient coins, " excavation team head Omer Celik, who supervised the excavations, was quoted as saying.

According to Celik, the ancient bathing complex included water heating and resting rooms and canals.

The Turkish archeologists also unearthed an ancient tomb in the southeastern Hatay province last year, he said.
